What is Infertility (Inability to Get Pregnant Spontaneously)?

What is infertility?

Infertility or infertility is defined as the inability of a living thing to reproduce by natural methods. Infertility in humans occurs regardless of gender. It is a wrong approach for couples who cannot have children to look for the problem in each other. When the male and female infertility rates in human infertility are examined, the results are equal. Infertility occurs in men and women due to different reasons, and their treatments are also different. Infertility should not be seen as a barrier to having children. With the right approach and treatment, it is possible to have a child despite infertility.

Types of Infertility

There are 2 different types of infertility, primary and secondary infertility. Primary infertility is the type of infertility in people who want to have children and have sexual intercourse for at least 1 year without protection. This sometimes occurs due to psychological reasons and sometimes due to physical reasons. Secondary infertility, on the other hand, is the type of infertility in question for people who have had children before, who have unprotected sexual intercourse for 1 year to have a child again, and who do not have children.

Female Infertility

The most common detectable cause of female infertility is tubal factors. Obstruction, deformation or structural deterioration in the tubes that carry the eggs can cause infertility. In addition to tubal factors, infertility also occurs due to reasons such as decreased ovarian reserve (DOR), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis (chocolate cyst).

Fibroids, which are also one of the most common problems in women, can also cause infertility due to tubal factors. In addition, uterine fibroids can disrupt the uterine structure and prevent the fertilized zygote from attaching. In addition, infertility may occur in women due to reasons such as infection and disease history, high prolactin hormone, thyroid diseases, cancer history, obesity.

Male Infertility

The main cause of male infertility is low sperm quality or number. Even if it is thought that the organs producing sperm are working smoothly, the content of the sperm must be examined. In men, varicocele, azoospermia, inability to get sperm out, undescended testes, erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation problems, insufficient level of testosterone hormone, duct blockages are known as the main causes of infertility. Among them, the most common ones are known as those that reduce the number of sperm or reduce their quality. Infertility treatment is possible even in cases where there is no sperm cell such as azoospermia.
