Embryo transfer is the process of placing embryos obtained outside the body into the uterus.
The process of placing the embryos in the region of the uterus with the highest probability of pregnancy is done with the help of ultrasound. Therefore, it is ensured that the expectant mother drinks plenty of water to fill the bladder before the ultrasound. After the ultrasound, the transfer process begins. At this point, the transfer process is easier because the full bladder brings the right angle of the uterus back to normal.
What is the Embryo Transfer Process?
he transfer day of embryos varies according to the number of embryos obtained. If the number of embryos is less than 4, embryo transfer is preferred in the early period. It is better if the embryos are given to their natural environment early, but if the age of the expectant mother is below 35 and the number of embryos is high, the culture period can be extended.
First of all, the cervix is seen by entering the vagina with an instrument called a speculum. Afterwards, the secretions in the vagina, cervix and uterine canal are cleaned with a liquid called medium. Then, the embryos with the highest chance of pregnancy are taken into the droplet and entered into the uterus with a catheter through the cervical canal under ultrasound guidance. Afterwards, these embryos are placed in the appropriate area in the upper half of the uterus. Thus, the transfer process ends.
How Does the Process After the Transfer Proceed?
Embryos transferred into the uterus continue to divide and develop for 2-3 days and then settle into the uterus. In transfers made 5-6 days after the egg is collected, the embryos are placed in the uterus on the same day or the next day. The next period is the process of hopeful expectation, in which embryos are expected to continue their development by dividing in the uterus for 12 days and to form a pregnancy by clinging to it.
In the first days after the transfer, it is very important for the expectant mother to pay attention and to rest by avoiding heavy activities. After 12 days, a pregnancy test is done.
